Isaiah John 7 Months

Our little guy turned 7 months old on Sunday. I'll spare you all and not say "It's going by so fast" (except it is). He has had a huge month!! Below are some pictures...

 He is such a bubbly happy baby boy. We are so lucky that he is smiling 95% of the time!

Quick Isaiah Facts:

New foods this month: Green Beans! He doesn't like them yet. He's eaten anything so far, but he sits there with the green beans in his month for a long time before he swallows them. Sometimes he spits them out, but usually he just lets them hang out for a while. He also had quinoa and LOVED it! He's a boy after his mama's vegetarian heart :)
Firsts this month: Flight! He had his first flight, across the country I might add, and did wonderfully. He also had his first St. Patricks Day. He wore lots of green that day and joined us for Andrew's work happy hour. He was passed around and got lots of squeezes from friends!
Sleep: Same as last month
Teeth: Right in the midst of getting more teeth in
New Experience: His little tiny baby feet got buried in the sand and dipped in the ocean water.

Dear Isaiah~
You are already 7 months old, can't hardly stand how fast this year is flying by. You put a spring in our step and so much love in our hearts! What did we ever do before you were around? You are becoming such a curious little baby boy; always looking around at people, toys, and mostly food :) The other day I went into your room and watched you sleep. It was the sweetest thing. I kept telling myself "I want to remember how small he is. I want to remember how sweet he is." While you are still just a baby, one day you'll be 7 then 17 then 27 and this day when you're just 7 months old will seem so far back. I love you to the moon and back. No matter how old you are or how far away you move on your adventures in life, you will always be my little boy!!

San Diego Part 1

A couple weeks ago Andrew, Isaiah, and I made our way to San Diego to visit Andrew's family and just plain get away! It was such a wonderful trip with so many fun memories. We spent lots of time outside, drinking coffee/beer (not at the same time), eating delicious food, and looking out onto the beautiful beaches. I'll start from the beginning...

We left on a Thursday evening. It wasn't a red eye, we took off at 7:00 and landed at 8:30 West Coast time (weird huh?!) It was Isaiah's first flight, so I was a little nervous going into it. I just had no idea what to expect. I had read a lot before going into it, so I felt somewhat prepared. I knew that the flight wasn't going to go on forever, so no matter how bad it was, it would eventually end (much like labor, ha!).

All-in-all Isaiah's first flight went really well. He slept for some of it, ate for most of it, and was awake and happy in between :)

Right when we arrived we got settled in, and went to sleep. Early the next morning we packed up the car for an overnight trip to Pasadena.

We hadn't been back to Pasadena since we'd left at the very end of 2011. Both of us were looking forward to visiting old land marks and seeing really close friends! We hit the road at 6:30 in order to beat traffic and make it to a meeting Andrew had with the former president of Fuller Seminary. While Andrew had his meetings I got to spend some time with our first friends in Pasadena and former commune roomies!

Since living together in the "commune" all three couples have had babies. I loved introducing Lahela and her adorable daughter to Lucy. It was so sweet to see how they interacted together. Lahela's husband Kyle was working all day so us ladies, and gentleman, got to spend the day walking around old town Pasadena together.

 First stop, Intelligentsia Coffee Bar! As many of you know we are coffee lovers/snobs. This is one of the best stops for delicious coffee. It was a bit intimidating to me as all of the staff at Intelligentsia are competition baristas. I know more about coffee then the average person, but I was still nervous when I ordered. Needless to say, my soy latte was amazing. And it was also $6 w/tip.

On our way back to Lahela's apartment we spent some time on the Fuller campus. The above picture is me and Isaiah in front of the Fuller library. I told Isaiah that his daddy used to work and study in that library, but he didn't seem to care.

That evening Andrew and some guys hit up some beers at a happy hour while Lahela, Lucy, Isaiah and I spent some more time in Old Town Pasadena.

So, the guy in the back right is who used to have Andrew's job at Roswell Pres. He now attends Fuller. Weird how Andrew and Stephen pretty much switched places and not they're both friends with each other's friends. Bekah, Stephen's sister, and I have become really good friends here in Roswell! Front right is Kyle, Lahela's husband.

The next morning we headed over to see the family I used to nanny for. I couldn't wait to see Jonah and meet his little brother Davin who was already two.

 Jonah was so excited to meet Isaiah! And he was soooo happy to see Andrew and I. Andrew and I lived with the Browns for our last two months in Pasadena which gave us so much bonding time with Jonah before we moved away. We enjoyed the morning with them, eating cinnamon rolls, playing on the floor, and catching up on life. We miss them tremendously!

Next we made our way down to Orange County to introduce Isaiah to Andrew's aunt Evette! We couldn't wait for her to meet him.

She loved him, and so did her bulldog Maddie :) Andrew's parents met us up there for the afternoon/evening. We sat outside and chatted for quite awhile before getting sushi take-out for dinner.

That was just the first 48 hours of our trip. At the time, Isaiah was a little crabby from the time change and from being on a plane and in the car so much. Looking back I see how much we crammed into the 48 hours after we touched down in San Diego and it's apparent to me that Isaiah was a trooper!!

San Diego part two will be up soon. And a 7 month post as well. Can't believe our little man is 7 month old already! 

Isaiah John 6 Months

On March 13th our little buddy turned 6 months old. I can't believe it's been half of a year since he was born. He has grown and changed so much. We are so thankful for every sweet moment we've had with him. Isaiah is starting to get up on his hands and knees and trying so hard to crawl but isn't quite there yet. We're hoping he'll make some more strides to crawl while we're in San Diego this next week.

He continues to eat a ton! His favorites are broccoli, pears, sweet potato and apples. He likes avocado too, but the texture seems to weird him out a little. I have had so much fun making his food and it's so easy to steam up some broccoli and puree it for him.

I'm sure we'll run into some attachment stuff later on, but right now he is extremely flexible and adapts to different situations really well. I am so thankful that he takes after his dad in the adaptation department. I'll admit, I am not a very well adjusted person. With Andrew's job being what it is, this kid doesn't really have a choice. We can't go anywhere having to do with church with out someone wanting to snatch him up and hold him. For now he goes with the flow and smiles at almost everyone.

His hair has calmed down. I am a little sad that the Mohawk is gone, but his smile more then makes up for it. I mean this kid smiles at anyone and everyone. And when his two bottom teeth show while he smiles it is the cutest thing ever.

sleep habits: sleeps 12 hours a night (7 to 7) and takes two 2.5 hour naps per day

favorite hobbies: eating, sleeping, and sitting in the stroller while mommy goes for a run or a walk

teeth: 2 teeth and more on the way

favorite soothing method: sucking his thumb. We love this! His thumb can never get lost or fall on the ground and it doesn't cost any money. We know later on we might have to work hard to break the habit, but for now, we'll take it.

first comment that's usually made about him: "that hair" or "that smile" although the mohawk is gone, his hair is still very unruly. And I'm telling you, this kid smiles at EVERYONE!! It's very endearing and makes people feel good :)

Isaiah John 5 months

*I wrote this post a couple weeks ago and never clicked "publish" oops! 
How is this happening? 5 months already?! Time is flying and we are loving every moment with our little bum. Lots of firsts this month...

5 months old! 2/13/14 

First sippy cup~he loves it!

 Isaiah experienced his first southern snow day(s), pictured below. He doesn't look too happy, but I think he's just taking it all in. During the snow storm it was the perfect time to start solids. So, on Jan 29th Isaiah had his first bite of rice cereal. And he LOVED it! He's already a foodie :)

This was the best year for Isaiah to experience the super bowl because MY team won. Go Seahawks. The three of us dressed in our bright greenish yellow and dark blue to represent. It was such a fun party with some of our best friends.

Last, but certainly not least, those teeth. Plural. Not only did the kid cut one tooth, he managed to get another one in a couple weeks later. We had a few rough nights, but just one week before he turned 5 months old I saw that the first one had popped through. These teeth make feeding time a little interesting, and sometimes painful :(

A tribute to my ROCK of a Husband

Happy Valentine's Day Love!
I know we don't really celebrate this holiday. What's unique about it? Everybody's getting dressed up, going out for dinner, lighting candles, exchanging cards, and eating way too many dark chocolate hearts. We don't need a day on the calendar to say I love you. But, I will refuse at this point to let another opportunity pass with out saying I love you for oh so many reasons! So, although it's cheesy and sentimental and you dislike cheesy and sentimental I will move onward with this little note.

 

You have absolutely rocked at being a daddy to our baby. Caring for him, playing a part in meeting his daily needs (that are so many) and NEVER complaining about it. Thank you for holding up the walls of our marriage even when they seem like they might not stand up anymore, for accepting apologies that I haven't been humble enough to speak out loud, for smiling when I know you feel like getting angry, and for pushing me out of my comfort zone to be a better wife, mother, and friend. We deserve to celebrate all that we have overcome (and are still overcoming)! Thank you for holding my hand when I'm sad, celebrating my successes, and teaching me what it means to love Jesus. You have put me first when I have put you second too many times. You are a rock, a dreamer, and adventurous. I am excited to be on this adventure with you. I look forward to many more years of not celebrating Valentine's Day with you! Where ever God leads us, you are my #1. This is our family, and I wouldn't choose to be anywhere else with anyone else! xoxo
